Powering communities & saving lives with solar + storage micro-grids

We provide aid to individuals and entire communities in need, including those impacted by energy instability, who would benefit from clean, reliable and affordable energy.

When hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in 2017...

  • In 2017, Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico, destroying the power grid and plummeting its people into darkness.
  • Immediately after the hurricane, the del Sol Foundation for Energy Security was founded with the mission to bring life-saving solar micro-grids to Puerto Rico, providing reliable power and enabling the community to rebuild.
  • In Dec 2017, Sonnen installed lavandarias to help people get access to clean water and basic refrigeration
  • In 2018 there were 12 microgrid installed and running across PR, providing water, food, basic power, healthcare services, etc.
  • Today we are actively looking for more microgrid sites as the island head into hurricane season.
